It was established in 1987 as rest area according to act no. 40/1956 Coll. Central part of natural park (area of 6,427 ha) comprises of separated ridge of the most eastern tip of Orlické Mountains – Bukovohorská Highlands. Its height (Suchý vrch 995 m above sea level, Buková Mountain 958 m above sea level) rises up to antagonistic value country zone. Červenovodské Saddle (main road goes through it) separates ridge into two parts.

Natural park is typical with its mutual balance and harmony of natural and antropic elements, especially because of shifting of vast wood complexes, balanced agricultural areas and human dwellings. Unequivocal dominance of wood ecosystems (mostly spruce monocultures) with rest of mixed beech-fir vegetation prefigures representation of flora and fauna species. Apart from these species, presence of round-leaved sundew on the peatbog under Suchý Hill is significant. Southern part of the natural park is intensively used for recreation. Every year, downhill and cross-country lanes in the winter resort of Čenkovice attracts thousands of visitors. Artillery fortress Bouda is a historical and natural interest (it is part of Museum of Czechoslovak fortification) that is also rich wintering place of 9 bat species.
