In 1581-1582, the town hall was built on the empty area of square. Duke Vratislav z Pernštejna was inspirer of this construction. Lanškroun became exclusive provider of salt and wine in the Lanškroun area to be able to pay for this construction. Formerly this building was made in Renaissance style with gabled roof and without tower. External walls were plastered with lime mortar and decorated with sgraffiti in the manner of other building of Vratislav z Pernštejna – chateaux of Litomyšl and Pardubice. Former one-story building has two portals.
North-eastern portal is decorated with diamond rusticwork with four coats of arms carved into stone (the left one is coat of arms of owner of Lanškroun manor – Vratislav Nádherný z Pernštejna, second coat of arms belongs to Vratislav’s wife Marie Manrique de Lara from outstanding Spanish family, coat of arms on the right side is symbol of town of Lanškroun). Southwestern stone postal is decorated with three coats of arms. Above the coat of arms of the town coat of arms of Lichtenštejn family was carved into the stone after their takeover of the manor. During 30-years war the town hall was damaged. In 1660, during reconstruction, clock and striking device by blacksmith from Dobruška were placed on the tower. Later, the guardroom (instituted in 1818) was used as classroom for widened school (3rd class of normal school and the first class of “grammar”). After renovation in 1830, apartments for the first alderman and clerk were established and fermenting cellar in the ground floor that served to brewery of the town was rebuilt into office of town taxes collector. From 1849, district court resided in the town hall. For a short period of time, there was county council on the town hall but the space was not sufficient and in 1870 county council moved. In 1859, town hall was renovated (at expenses of monarchy treasury) and gained shingled roof and simple triangle gable. General reconstruction of town hall (1986 - 1996) gave original Renaissance appearance back to the town hall; including pair of gable roof. Town hall came back to its original function and it is a seat of Municipal Authorities of Lanškroun.
